Periodontal Abscess

Gum disease is one of the most damaging problems your teeth can face, often leading to serious and painful conditions, like periodontal abscess, or a pocket between your gums and tooth that harbors bacteria and infection. If you think that gum disease only affects your mouth, however, think again.

Studies have shown that periodontal abscess and other gum disease related problems can have a serious and negative impact on your overall health, even contributing to diabetes and other systemic ailments, like respiratory problems, heart disease, and stroke.

To prevent gum disease and resulting periodontal abscesses, you should:

  • Brush your teeth thoroughly and carefully twice a day
  • Floss between and around all your teeth at least once a day
  • Check your gums for changes in coloration, texture, and sensitivity
  • Make an appointment with our office immediately if you notice your gums bleeding
  • Have regular dental checkups and cleanings (twice a year for most people).

Failing to prevent gum disease can result in sensitivity, pain, and other oral complications, but failing to treat gum disease can cost you your health.

Want to learn more about preventing and treating gum disease? Please contact cosmetic dentists Dr. LeSueur and Dr. Dodaro today, serving patients from Phoenix and the surrounding areas of Mesa, Tempe, and Scottsdale, Arizona.
